From Rent to Roots: The Journey to a Forever Home

Updated: Jul 5

n June 2010, a major milestone unfolded in the Familia Moja story—we purchased land in Mang’u with a dream to build a permanent, self-sustaining home for the children in our care. This move wasn’t just about bricks and mortar—it was about creating stability, ownership, and a foundation for long-term impact.

Instead of spending money on rent, we set our sights on investing in our future. From December 2011 to March 2013, we brought that dream to life by employing local builders, architects, and skilled laborers. This approach not only ensured the home was built safely and according to local standards, but it also injected income directly into the surrounding community.

Then came the most heartwarming moment in our journey—In March 2013, the children moved into a place they could finally call their own.

A home filled with laughter, love, and endless possibility.

While this was a huge step forward, our journey isn’t over just yet. Some parts of the home remain unfinished—including the dining/study hall, kitchen, back balcony, and final touches like painting, plumbing, and electrical fittings. With your support, we’re confident we’ll complete the vision.
